Life Story Recordings

Life Story Recordings are structured, safeguarding-led recording sessions that capture a resident’s personal history, values, and lived experience in their own words.

How Life Story Recordings are delivered

  • Delivered one-to-one or in small supported settings

  • Facilitated using structured thematic prompts

  • Professionally recorded and edited

  • Guided by ongoing consent and capacity checks

  • Residents may pause, stop, or withdraw at any time

Recordings may be audio or video and remain resident-owned.

What this supports

  • Person-centred care by preserving identity and preferences

  • Meaningful engagement without performance pressure

  • Improved understanding for families and care teams

  • Evidence of resident voice for inspection and review

Ownership & Boundaries

Residents retain ownership of their recordings and decide if they are shared or kept private.

This is structured narrative work, not entertainment or therapy.

Discuss suitability and implementation for your setting.

Resident-led Podcasts

Resident-led Podcasts are facilitated audio recordings where residents choose the topic and speak individually or collectively, in their own terms.

They are offered as a safeguarded extension of Life Story Recordings where appropriate.

How Resident-led Podcasts are delivered

  • Delivered individually or in small groups

  • Topics chosen by residents, not imposed

  • Professionally recorded and edited

  • Guided by ongoing consent and capacity checks

  • Participation is voluntary and may be withdrawn at any time

Recordings remain private unless wider sharing is explicitly agreed.
